10 of the best mid-strength and lower-ABV spirits, wines and beers to ease you back in after Dry January
From Session Spirit to Small Beer, these are the best mid-strength and low-ABV spirits, wines and beers to stock your fridge with with post-Dry January.
If you’re one of the estimated 15.5 million who were expected to take part in Dry January this year, you may have already given some thought to what your first tipple will be in February. But after a month of no drinking, it might be a good idea to ease yourself back into things.
Enter: mid-strength spirits, beers and wines. For those unfamiliar, a mid-strength beverage sits somewhere between your average full-strength alcoholic drink and its low-alcohol equivalent, so typically ranging from 10–25% ABV (compared to 40%-plus) for spirits like gin and tequila or 3–6% ABV for wines (that are typically 12–15% ABV).
The upside here is that you can still enjoy the flavour and sophistication of your favourite drinks without quite so many of the nasty after-effects.
And with a growing number of us identifying as ‘sober curious’, the market for great lower-alcohol alternatives is booming (along with totally alcohol-free options, of course). We’ve rounded up some of the mid-strength offerings that offer less ABV but all the flavour.
