Oversized stoles, fuzzy gloves, plush hats and statement bags dominated the streets at Copenhagen Fashion Week, proof that winter accessories don’t have to be boring. Here’s our guide to the trend, complete with insider styling tips you’ll actually use.

I know what you’re thinking: faux fur hats and scarves – really? Are we genuinely at the point where we’re dressing like a Muppet on a ski holiday or padding out the door resembling a particularly plush Ewok? Thankfully, no. This isn’t a descent into full character dressing, nor a cry for help via accessories.

What’s happening is far more restrained – and much more wearable. Softness has crept into wardrobes in small, deliberate doses: a plush hat here, a fuzzy bag there, a tactile stole slung over an otherwise sensible coat. Think accent rather than outfit. Comfort-forward, yes, but still sharp, intentional and chic.

Celebrities and the street style set at Copenhagen Fashion Week, naturally, have got there first. They’ve been quietly backing the soft power trend for months now, wrapping up in furry accessories with the kind of nonchalance usually reserved for scarves you’ve owned for years.

Rihanna, Alexa Chung and Laura Harrier have all leaned into the look – particularly Miu Miu’s soft-textured stoles – styling their accessories with everything from micro mini skirts to silky, nightie-style slip sets. The message is clear: softness isn’t a styling afterthought; it is the point.

The idea was firmly cemented on the autumn/winter 2025 catwalks. Etro and Ganni explored trapper-style hats, stoles and wraps, offering a modern take on winter practicality, while Dsquared² dialled things up with oversized, tactile bag accents.

Miu Miu elevated the stole to hero status, worn loosely and almost casually against ladylike skirts and coordinated sets. Chloé layered hirsute scarves over heavyweight leather trenches, striking that now-familiar balance between softness and strength. Simone Rocha, meanwhile, leaned fully into whimsy, sending out an animal-shaped bag resembling a March hare – proof that texture can be playful without tipping into fancy dress.

What makes the trend work is just how wearable it is (yes, really). A plush hat adds a subtle 90s ease to a tailored coat or bomber; a fuzzy bag softens sharp lines without overwhelming them. Long gloves, whether opera-length or neatly cropped, bring a quietly regal note to minimalist outfits, while textured footwear acts as a playful punctuation point on brighter winter days. The key is restraint: choose one tactile piece, wear it loosely and let it feel almost accidental.
