These Ugg ballet flats are the shoes of the season – here’s how to style them
Keeping toes warm and outfits comfy, the Ugg Zora ballet flat has just been named one of the hottest items of the season by Lyst – here’s how fashion people are wearing them.
Having worked in fashion for 15 years, I’ve seen a lot of trends come and go. But one brand that’s managed to stand the test of time and maintain its loyal following is Ugg. Love them or leave them, the Aussie footwear brand has saved a lot of feet in the UK from freezing thanks to its fleece-lined offerings. Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton – just about every celebrity in the 00s wore them (yes, mainly the classic tall Chestnut). Working in a shoe shop on Oxford Street in 2012, there would be queues of people outside each morning, all hoping to be in with the chance of grabbing a pair before they inevitably sold out again. The power of the Ugg was real. They enjoyed another huge resurgence among fashion people in 2024, and they’ve remained popular since. But the fact is, no matter whether they’re worn by celebrities, editors or influencers, Uggs will always have a fan base because they’re just too damn comfy not to embrace each winter.
While we’re all familiar with the classic boot style, it’s a new Ugg style that’s proving popular this season: the Ugg Zora. The Lyst Index fashion report named them one of the hottest items, even managing to beat Saint Laurent’s cult slingback heels. So, what’s so great about this ballet flat pair? Let’s get into it.
Making its debut on the Talia Byre spring/summer 2026 runway, new Ugg styles graced the catwalk with balloon trousers (another comeback trend), dresses and sleek separates. Looking like a cross between the ballet flats that have had us all in a chokehold for quite a few seasons and my grandma’s favourite slippers, these fuzzy shoes are tapping into the cosy accessories micro trend we’re all embracing at this time of year.
It took me a while to warm to them, but I can fully appreciate the appeal of basically getting to wear your slippers outdoors – goodbye, cold toes.
If you’re unsure how to wear them, the trick is not overthink it. Sure, you could go kitsch and pair with pyjama-style trousers or a fluffy coat, but in my opinion, they’re best worn with basics. Add them to jeans and a polo top like this street styler (above), slip on with tailored trousers and a vest or simply wear with your joggers and a sweater, as seen on the catwalk at Talia Byre. It’s best just to wear the neutral pairs in the same way that you would your usual ballet flats on trainers.
If Ugg has taught me anything over the years, it’s that these will sell out quicker than Oasis reunion tickets.
