But can these plates championed by Nasa and Madonna also offer us all the benefits claimed on our For You pages? “The main benefits are gentle but supportive,” says Dr Kubicka. “The most consistent effect is increased muscle activation, particularly through the legs, glutes and core.”

“This can help the body feel more engaged and stable, especially for women who are sedentary, returning to exercise or spending long hours sitting. Some women also experience a temporary improvement in circulation, often described as warmth or lightness in the legs.”

Dr Kubicka adds that the vibrations can reduce muscle stiffness in the short term, which may help the body feel looser and more mobile.

Dr Kubicka says the plates are a supportive tool but do not replace cardiovascular exercise or strength training. “The response is real and measurable, but the degree of benefit depends on vibration frequency, amplitude, posture and whether the individual is actively engaging muscles rather than standing passively,” she says.

Passively standing on the plate will be unlikely to cause any significant changes, but using the plates in short sessions of five to 15 minutes, two to three times per week, can provide noticeable benefits, if combined with active movement or rehabilitation.

“The benefit comes from active, controlled positions, such as gentle squats, lunges, calf raises or holding a soft knee bend with the core engaged,” she suggests. “Posture is key: knees slightly bent, spine neutral and abdominal muscles lightly engaged. Sessions should remain short, with steady breathing and moderate intensity.”
