September solar eclipse: what does it mean for you and which star signs are most affected?

Astrology

Are you excited or apprehensive about the next solar eclipse? Here’s what it might mean for you, according to an astrologer.

September has been a busy month in the world of astrology. We’ve seen Saturn return to Pisces, and Mercury enter Virgo – and who can forget that Libra season will be upon us in just a few days?

Among it all, the next solar eclipse is nearly upon us. But, just what will it mean for you and which star signs are most affected? “The gifts of eclipses are sudden surprises, radical new beginnings and extreme changes, letting us update our journey ahead,” says Inbaal Honigman, astrologer and expert at interactive tarot platform Tarotoo.

Put simply, we can expect something in our lives to shift in the coming weeks. Here, Honigman reflects on what changes September’s solar eclipse might bring – and who may feel this the most.

When is September’s solar eclipse?

September’s solar eclipse takes place tonight, on the evening of 21 September. “This month’s eclipse is in Virgo, so the effects will centre around themes of communication and organisation,” says Honigman.

“During the solar eclipse, the moon passes between the sun and the Earth,” adds Honigman. “The moon obstructs the light of the sun, so that the light doesn’t travel to Earth, which means that we cannot see parts of the sun from Earth at all. This can only ever happen during the period of a new moon – when there’s a solar eclipse, the sun and the moon are in the same astrological sign.”

What does September’s solar eclipse mean for you?

Solar eclipses often signify a change in people’s lives, whether big or small. “The solar eclipse on 21 September will propel you in directions that you wanted to explore but felt uncertain in,” says Honigman. “Whether you are in the mood for big shifts or only small ones, once your fears are removed, imagine what you can achieve.”

This eclipse may also be a particularly important time for your friendships and relationships. “Renewal is at the heart of eclipses, so new friendships are a very strong possibility,” says Honigman. “A new social circle, or at least one or two new online friends, are a gift from the eclipse. The eclipse [also] pushes us in the direction of changes, which is great for bringing in new relationships.”

Which star signs will be most affected by September’s solar eclipse?

Honigman suggests that everyone will feel the effects of the upcoming solar eclipse, but the Virgo, Libra and Pisces star signs are the most likely to feel direct change from it.

Virgo

The eclipse happens in Virgo season, so it’s perhaps unsurprising that this star sign will be most affected. “You’ll feel the effects of the eclipse because you’ll hear from new people, be presented with fresh opportunities and feel the desire to create radical change in your life,” says Honigman.

Libra

With Libra season beginning on 23 September, this is another sign that will feel the full weight of the eclipse, especially because Mercury (the planet of communication) and Mars (the planet of passion) are both in Libra’s sign at the moment of the eclipse. “This promises new energies in your social life, as Mercury is a chatty, friendly sign, so new friends will materialise,” adds Honigman. “Mars is more of a mixed bag and can bring forth arguments as well as a desire for experimentation.”

Pisces

Saturn (the planet of slow, deliberate changes) happens to be in Pisces during this eclipse, meaning this sign will be doing some soul-searching over the upcoming days. “While the eclipse pushes for change, Saturn wants you to stay still and learn your lessons slowly,” says Honigman. “This battle between old and new can cause you to feel conflicted and seek out some silence in which to think and focus.”
